What if an education made a difference?

"You are today where your thoughts have brought you, and you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you."  I say this quote to our students a minimum of once per week.  For this unit, I am challenging students with a simple set of instructions; make the world around you a better place.  Some of the ideas students came up with were fantastic and very creative.  As a team, we decided that in order to have the most impact on our world, we should work together.

The students have created a not-for-profit (NPO) organization within our school.  The organization consists of a structure that includes  an executive board, seven departments and the drive to improve our school.  This organization is student led and student driven.  I would like to give you more details about the projects that they will be working on, but the organization's board has not approved those projects and the project coordinators have not set dates to begin those projects.

I have been assigned a role in their organization:  snack provider.

America's Reconstruction -- People and Politics After the Civil War

The above link is where much of the material we will use in class will come from for this unit.  The University of Houston has published this website and it is an excellent source for essays and literature on the subject for Reconstruction.
